Despite many of us trying to stay healthy in our lives outside work with our insta-worthy smoothies and our morning runs, a lot of us still neglect our bodies when it comes to being healthier at work. From our diet and hydration to our activity, we need to take some time to reassess our work day and find ways to kick-start that healthier lifestyle both in the office and out. These 7 tips should help you to find small ways for staying healthy in the office and changing your work life.
Here are some of the best tips for when you are trying to staying healthy in the office:
1. Plan and prep lunches in advance
Whether it’s the night before or a week in advance, try and plan all of your lunches for the working week. It can be sandwiches, salads or whatever you like but the process will make sure you avoid making unhealthy decisions on a whim. It might even save you money in the long run!
2. Take a walk when you take a phone call
Finding the time to stay active during the day is one of the hardest parts of staying healthy in the office. Whenever you have to take or make a call, try and walk around while you chat- especially if you’re on your mobile. This will give you a few minutes of exercise and break up the time spent staring at a screen.
3. Deny yourself that third (or fourth) cup of coffee
It’s the old faithful pick-me-up for most office workers, but we need to know when to stop. Replace your cups of coffee with herbal tea or a cold drink to give you some needed mid-afternoon energy.
4. Fill up on H2O
If you are a coffee-faithful, you are probably going to be feeling dehydrated. Keeping a bottle of water filled at your desk will be good for you whatever the case.
5. Peel yourself away from your phone
It can be the most helpful tool in the world, but our phones not only can distract us from our work at hand but it just adds one more screen for our tired eyes to look at. If you must use your phone and your computer screen, take regular breaks; turn the brightness down, and invest in eye drops or a soothing eye mist.
6. Stretch those muscles out regularly
Take the stairs instead of the elevator, take time to stretch your muscles. Sitting for hours at a desk without giving your body a break could be damaging to your health, so it’s worth just making some moves every once in a while.
7. Give yourself enough time between getting home and getting into bed
Although not entirely a tip for in the office, this is a seriously important tip! Giving yourself enough time to have a proper meal and still have some time for yourself before bed will lead to a less stressful lifestyle and will help you get a good night’s sleep.
Hopefully these tips will give you an idea of how to stay healthy in the office without completely revamping your routine!
